ILP "Participation" LinkedInLearning

For this assignment I was challenged to learn about a form of technology foreign to me. I chose to learn about types of cameras and how to use them. I have always been interested in photography and I think it could play a very important role in the classroom. In my experience, parents love to see pictures of their kids participating in activities. Taking pictures of the students for their parents is a great way to show them what we are working on in class, as well as having a keepsake to treasure their child at that particular age.
In addition to being a good source of visual updates for the parents, photography can also be used in the classroom. Photography can be used as visual examples in lessons so as to help the visual learners understand that what we are learning is important, and shows how the material we learn can be utilized in the real world situations displayed in the pictures. I added an article that might be able to explain it better than I can
Photography Can Transform Students' Perspectives

Attached is the link for my voice thread, detailing my discovery on the use of photography:

ELA STANDARDS
As a kindergarten teacher it is important to begin implementing standards so that the students have goals to achieve, and begin striving for greatness in education at an early age. The main standard for this age group is for the ability to begin utilizing technology, as well as beginning to write and collaborate amongst themselves. I feel confident that I can successfully incorporate this standard into my classroom. The technology that we are suggested to use are smartboards, StoryJumper, and computer programs such as Paint. To incorporate smartboards, I will utilize them during STEM lessons, having the students share their answers and thought process with the rest of the class. In the ELA field, I will use it for activities such as fill-in in the blanks of sentences, and understanding concept questions so that the class can collaborate as a whole. As far as StoryJumper goes, I will designate a specific time each day to do a class reading. In addition to this, I will assign certain books for homework on the website that are easy to access for the students. As for Paint, students can utilize this tool to illustrate images to their own stories that they tell.

CPALM is another great resource to utilize as a kindergarten teacher. Personally, none of my teachers have used this resource in the past, however, when browsing the website, there are many useful activities. For example, for gravity, there is a video story giving a brief introduction to help the students visualize and better interpret the concept. Sometimes we might not be able to explain things in a way that every student can understand so it is important to have multiple approaches so that every student will be successful.

In class, we had to make a newsletter for our future potential class. In this instance, I chose to write a newsletter for a third grade class. I really like how my newsletter came out considering making these is a new concept for me. To improve, I would love to add more graphics and make it more appealing to the mind of a younger student. I would also like to print it on colored paper so when they take it home to their parents, it registers as an important document.

Microsoft Word and Copyright

Growing up in an environment and time period with easy access to technology, it was incorporated into my education for as long as I can remember. Microsoft word has always been a tool that helps us get familiar with technology. Early on, teachers realized that technology is transforming society, and began to have computer classes to teach us how to work with Word. We would have lessons on word art, creating bibliographies and formatting them correctly, and even things as simple as indenting paragraphs. As we grew, more and more assignments were given with the expectation of using Microsoft Word, whether it be an essay/ Power Point or a brochure. Today, aside from submitting essays that I complete on Word, I often take notes for class through this program as well.

In regards to essays, it is very important to remember to practice fair use of information that you are using. As a teacher, this is something I will put a great emphasis on. You can't take someone else's work and say that it it yours. It is important to create your own work and formulate your own thoughts. To enforce this, I will utilize tools such as Turnitin.com, as well as comparing the students' work amongst each other's, and make sure that if students do use material from others, they cite their sources. On my end of managing copyright, I will make sure that I cite where I am getting my materials as well as posting a document listing.

There are a number of issues that are prevalent in any given classroom but the three I would like to focus on are cyberbullying, academic honesty, and copyright. To prevent copyright in my classroom, I am going to take the precautions I stated earlier such as using websites that check for copyright, citing sources, and putting emphasis on the necessity of honesty and creativity. To prevent cyberbullying, I will walk around the class and monitor the students to make sure they are staying on task and positive. Another thing I would like to do is plan activities that make the students feel comfortable sharing with one another and create a zero tolerance bullying policy. To maintain academic honesty, I will monitor tests and quizzes that are taken. There is a software that can be downloaded to school computers to make sure students aren't opening separate tabs while taking assessments. Creative Commons License

International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE)

Technology in society is constantly evolving. In order to better prepare our students for their futures, we need to incorporate the use of technology to get them acclimated. In today's society, nearly everything involves technology some way or another. The earlier we incorporate technology, the easier it will be for students to learn to use it. This is due to the brain having a greater elasticity at a younger age, which is the same reason it is easier for students to learn a second language at a younger age. From another aspect, not only does introducing technology better prepare our future generations so they are aware of hoe to use it, but it will also improve methods of learning in the classroom. Using technology such as smart boards helps visual learners have a better grasp of material, or having laptops that would help the kinesthetic learners lock in the content.

The ISTE has standards for both the students and the teachers. As a student that has been influenced by a decent amount of technology during her educational career, I can relate to the standard of being a digital citizen the most. To sum up this standard, there is an ethical way to use technology that should be followed. From an early age, we had class lessons on cyberbullying and other issues that might be prevalent when using technology. However, there is still a lot for me to learn and adapt to. I am incredibly excited and willing to learn how to use the standards for educators so that I can better my future students. On this side of the educational spectrum, I think I would like to focus the most on being a collaborator. I want to be able to take feedback from my superiors, my peers, and my students on how to better expand the knowledge of myself and my students in technology.

My generation is often labeled as digital natives. While this may be some of us, a decent amount of my generation doesn't have access to technology and therefore won't know how to use it. I have been fortunate enough to learn through the use of technology but many people in my generation have never seen a computer or cell phone, so the general label of digital native doesn't apply to them. some of my teachers had the occasional struggle with technology as we all do, however, I felt that they were all very well informed on the technology and its use. There will always be a slight technology gap between the students and the teachers because the teachers may not always be as well adapted to the innovations. Creative Commons License
